TR6 TR6 heater box

I'm tearing out the interior of my '72 TR6, and as usual, these projects keep getting bigger. Why not replace the pitted windshield while I'm at it, and then what about that heater box, since I have easy access?

Got the dash out yesterday, and I should get to the point of removing the heater box from the car today. I ran water through it yesterday, and got quite a bit of rust out of it.

It appears that the "insides" of the box are available from TRF, etc. but not the entire unit. Is it easy to take the box apart?

Sorry Bill, can't help with the heater box question but a word of advice on the windshield:-
I struggled replacing my original screen. I had a new seal, a new chrome filler strip and a very experienced 'helper' this did not stop the end result from being a cracked windshield, we had it perfectly seated until with 4" to go when the shield cracked. I priced a TRF shield, $250, then went to a local widshield fitting company, they charged $190 fitted. They got the cracked unit out in 10 seconds and the new one fitted in 15 minutes, well worth letting the experts do the job and take the responsibility.

Was it easy to find a windshield locally that fit? I remember struggling with the one in my '67 MGB. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif Man, I was never satisfied with the fit of that one!

Well, I got the heater box out, and now it's time to try and disassemble...

Darn, I installed a new windshield on my TR6, using the nylon cord trick and it popped right in. Go figure...

Easy to find??
Very.
First people I called had a suitable windshield the next day. The town I live in as around 100,000 people so we are not that cosmopolitan.
I still recommend an expert to fit, even if you ask them to use your original shield, if it cracks, the responsibilities is companies.

Heading back to my original question, I answered it myself!

After freeing a few rusted screws, I got the heater core out of the heater box. While it doesn't look too bad, the rust is enough to replace it.

Anyone with an idea on "life expectancy" of the blower motor? It seems to work fine, but I'm not sure if I want to tear into this thing again soon! Looks like $90 for a new motor.
