As I continue the seemingly never end search for a car fro my son I came accross this.... Grandpa's barn stored Triumph Herald that turns freely... $500. It is local and I would go look for someone if they wants, I might out of courosity.

I may know that car. It was located in the Mercer area.
If it is the same car, the man passed away, and this is his son selling it. He is in our Triumph club and lives in Bethel Park.

Pictures show last inspected in 1999. The door and the spare tire well are a little rough, no back seat, mismatched fronts, but I'd seriously consider it for $500 if I didn't have the TR7 - anyone looking for a fuel injected TR7?

For $500, I'd even consider going over to the dark side!

If that's the worst of the rust, and those are all typical "early" areas of rust on a Herald, then it could be quite the deal.

Anyone seriously interested really should inspect the chassis thoroughly. Rust is all too common there, particularly in the various outriggers. First to go usually are the rearmost ones under the boot (trunk), along with the rearmost side outriggers to which the rear axle radius rods mount.

If anyone does go to view the car in person, I would appreciate information on the commission, engine and body numbers for my Database; thanks in advance!

In the FWIW Dept., I know a litte about Heralds, having made a road trip in one a few years ago. A friend has a '65 Herald convertible (with a 1500 transplanted engine, front disc brakes, nicely restored) and we drove from Charlottesville to Richmond and back in it to the VTR show in Richmond.

Believe it or not, his Herald is a pretty nice hiway cruiser. It's not revved out on the highway, I figured the gearing was in the 3:50-3:70ish range. With the top down, it's quite comfy and gets tons of looks!

Sadly, we found out the hard way that the top leaks like a sieve! Rained cats and dogs on the way home, we got soaked.

Fun car, though, just like most Triumphs!

I can highly recommend a Herald. The steering is sublime. Power and handling are nowhere near a TR's and you don't want to be climbing too many steep hills. They are very friendly little cars and the engine access is fantastic.
Of course you could always fit a 6-cylinder Triumph engine from the large saloon, GT6, Vitesse or TR6.
