TR4/4A Bonnet Felts + Sun Visors for a 4A

Two queries related to a late edition 4A IRS (post to thread or PM is fine) :
1. Does anyone have a diagram or photo showing the location and dimensions of the fussy felts that are located as buffers between the various layers of metal on the underside of the front bonnet on a 4A?
2. Would anyone (please) be able to snap a couple of detail photos of the centre and two outside mounts of their sun visors?

Tom-

I'm out on vacation until next week, but I believe I have a set of TR4a visor mounts that I could snap a picture of when I get back if you don't get any other offers. They are offset compared to the TR4 brackets, I think to accomodate the latch mechanism for the 4a top.

Regards,
Randy

On my 1964 TR4 the only felt is a long piece under the stiffener that runs the length of the bonnet:

It runs almost the entire length of that support, here are the ends:

There are also a 3 pads (rubber?) under the cross piece towards the front. You can the left hand one in one of the above pics, here is the center pad:

The images are small as I am on a slow land line. Reply with the visor pics will follow.

Thank you Geo!
My felts appear to have just slipped out and there is no evidence of the foam rubber blocks.
It looks like the 4a Visors may be a little different. Still cannot figure out why this car was never factory equiped with them and am hesitant to just start drilling away....
TR4nut would like to se your car's version as well Please and Thank You

The center mount for the 4A has a slight dogleg on each end. I have a set in my shop that I will post for you to look at.

Our 4th vistors just left so I had a chance to snap a couple of pics for you. Sorry it took this long.

Notice that there are 2 variations on the center mount at the end that slips inside the visors. Both are from 1966 TR4As. The flat finish is correct.

Good thing I got lazy this morning and didn't take any photos - I can't improve on Peter's shots, I have the same setup with the center piece not having the extra notch.

Peter- did you redye those visors? If so can you point me to what you used? I have a pretty good set to refurbish but they definitely need dyeing.

They're nice aren't they?! Foam was in great shape. Many of the original visors are "sagging bags of slop" to quote Charles Runyan (TRF), because the foam got wet and degraded.

I washed them with Westley's Bleech-White and a soft brush being very careful not to let the foam get wet AT ALL.

Then I used SEM Vinyl Prep #38343. Wipe down and let dry. Then SEM Color Coat (a soft vinyl paint) #15603. It's a very close color to the original. Not too white, not off-white or beige, but "sailcloth" describes it well. Too often I've seen black used but I think that black wasn't offered until the 250s.

The "proper black finish" on the brackets (the one with the notches) is not satin, and not flat. It is a Krylon color Semi-Flat black. I think that it's also just right.

So now everyone knows my secrets. The hard part is finding the visors in the original pattern and the brackets. Both are NLA AFAIK.

Randy,

I have a 4A ... after a good cleaning, I applied two coats of white paint formulated for vinyl and plastic. Worked great, and readily available in all the usual places

Cheers
