I'm considering this car...its in Arizona & he'll deliver it next week...its gonna need restoration - that's a white color put on it to protect the body after the PO lost interest, everything is with it in boxes...nicest thing is its a rustfree California Black Tag car:

If your definition of "scary-pretty" is the same as mine, that's why I'm still trying to decide whether or not to send the check....my definition is "looks like an easy redo but something's bugging me"....what's yours?

The "lumps".

It won't be the "easy redo" but better chance than about 99% of the ones I've come across in a couple decades.

Have you shown those pix to your body shop guys yet? That'd be the thing to give you intel. It's lookin' like it can be a really good save, but it will NOT be easy or cheap. The effort to straighten it (assuming that's just metal damage, not plastic) will still be a labor of love.

Taking them to him Monday...based on his thoughts, I'll either overnight a check or say "thanks"...I've got an extra hood & trunk lid that are almost perfect.

I already have a 1959 MGA roadster so this would be a nice match.

I mentioned in an earlier post the couple small dings on the boot lid and the light dent in the front (driver's side) wind near the headlight. Those look minimal.

The new attachments (this post) certainly don't show anything that would be alarming to me...BUT...I've not see any frame shots or engine bay...those would tell a more in-depth story.

Any idea when it last saw the road, Tony? Judging from the dry rot in the tire in attachment 12 I'd say it's been a while...or the guy lives life on the edge...either would be worth investigating.

You know, Tony, air fare is pretty cheap; might be worth an overnighter to go see it...could save a LOT of grief later on. Unless you're looking for a rare car or specific factory options, there are lots of potentials out there. I'd be looking (in person) for the one that screams out "take me...I'm the real deal".

See, Ray, that's right...this one's not "screaming"! But it sure looks like 'potential'.

Ah! I now understand the "deeper meaning" of this post!

"Cliff - have you ever thought of doing a print of a pair of MGA's - coupe & roadster - in Old English White? Maybe behind a group of people having a picnic or something?"

Yep, I'm really struggling with this car....part of me says 'yes', part of me says to hold off.

I've conflict between: "Don't BUY work" and "This one could be saved."

Tony needs to make this call.

Tony -

If you can see the waves with white paint, I would think that it would be REALLY "lumpy"! Any way you can find someone local to take a look?

get on de plane Tony, a cheap investment if the car is a mess, and if it is a good one you will hate yourself for missing it

So - it's lumpy.
How many MGA coupes are there still out there? It's the best looking car MG ever made.
If it's not rusty and you've got the chrome bits and the glass (and the money), then it's a no-brainer Tony.

Hey guys - maybe it is just me but that doesn't really look like Arizona. Are those pictures from when it was in NorCal?
