What's an Alpine worth

I'm obviously new to the forum, but can any one tell me anything about the Sunbeam Alpine? There is one local to me for sale, it is in really rough condition and I was just wondering about gathering some more information on the car. Now don't get too mad, but I currently own a 76 911S and am looking for a new project. Are there any hidden dangers to look out for in regards to the Sunbeam? How rare is an Alpine? And what is a Alpine in rough conditon worth, as well as one in good and excellent condition?
Thanks in advance
Ryan

Depends on how you define rough. The big thing with an Alpine is rust. No new fenders are available for them. The only sheet metal is either used or a small selection of basic pieces. Mechanical bits are a better story, except for early cars where they're becoming scarce.

An Alpine will no be worth what it costs to restore, especially if you have pay to have it done.

Then there's the body style. Series 1 - 3 cars have slanted rear fins and a multi bar front grill. Series 4 and 5 have squared off fins and a single bar grill with medallion.

Value?? Well if you could post a picture or I'd get a better idea but probably somewhere between 200 to 1500 dollars depending on completeness, rust, options etc.

One of the Alpine specialists in the UK has remanufactured most of the body panels. It just depends how deep your pockets are.

There's a Canadian specialist who has remanufactured a lot of panels too.

I tried to attach a picture of the car. It is listed as a 67 with a V6 GM in it, does any one have any information on that?
Thanks in advance

I've seen worse.also have done extensive rust repair.Have seen complete fenders on ebay.Might be an interesting project with the GM V6.I do think it would be a lot of work to bring back to original.Nothing is impossible but it can cut deep in the pocket.
Visit [www.sunbeamalpine.org]There is a heading in the forum for modified Alpines which are for the most part are V6 conversions.
As to worth of what I see in the picture it depends on what you may be willing to pay and what the seller will let it go for.Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If the motor runs good and the mechanicals are there in some what decent shape, then it is worth a few hundred dollars.
Good luck if you decide to go this way.

The car is suffering from exposure, and who knows what corrosion had done. I'd say you could really lowball the offer ($150-400CDN) without offending the owner - if that's how it's kept.

It may be of interest to you to know that I have a '67 that was totalled recently that I'll be parting out. Many new parts, engine too, was damaged when hit in right rear, frame damage.

Good luck with your project, I've decide to part ways with Sunbeam and emerge later with a complete roadster, (Model not yet determined) after all, I'm no less an enthusiast just because I buy it complete!

Cheers.....james

I'd go towards the low end as well. If it's been outside a significate part of it's life with no top rot in the x frame under the cockpit and in the floor and rockers may be a real problem.

Thanks guys I was considering it as I thought it would be an interesting project, he is asking $750 for it. Its a couple of hours away from me and I just don't have any time to go look at it. That's the only picture I have seen. I may hold off and keep looking.
Thanks for the help
