Tiger Battery

Does anyone have a recommendation for a new battery for a 65 Tiger; brand and specific model number that will work in the car? Would side terminals be better than on top? I am starting it up after a twenty year sleep. Watch for the smoke.

I told the guy at Sears I had a 1971 Olds Custom Cruiser with a 455 and trailer-towing package. The gave a a Die-Hard the size of a chest freezer -- so far it works well, starting the car after prolonged periods.

With top terminals, the Moroso battery shut-off knob barely clears the false floor.

Did you use that in the tiger.I generally get a 700 amp battery from the dealer.I do get trade price which is a good saving.I would think of some insulation regarding that clearance.
Great fun eh.

Re staring up. Use 2cycle gas and pour abit down the carb. Will help oil the top as yhou start. This will certainly add to the smoke.

One never knows does one.
Well I know A fellow who has the olds wagon set up with the 455 to tow his race car.It had the 455. I think dodge may have seen him and made their commercial for the truck.Only thing was with all the money he spent on the wagon it was faster than the car.

I use an Orbital battery in my Tiger-clone, and am very happy with it. It was recommended because (as the name suggests), it will not leak battery acid or fumes, even if you turn it upside down. The reason my mechanic thinks this is important is that you have very little protection from the battery (mine is under a lid right behind the passenger seat). One of my kids sits on this lid when whe rides in the back. Also, I run a hardtop in the winter, so I don't want battery acid fumes in my unventilated cockpit. I understand these are popular in race cars, so you might try the speed shop if they aren't available at the parts house.

Thanks, guys. I am not sure that I have anything specific to tell the battery supplier but I will give it a shot. Last time I checked most of them didn't have Sunbeam, much less Tiger, in their cross reference catalog. I can always take the one out of my truck to get it started. Concerning the start up, when I crank it by hand it feels pretty stiff. The two cycle fuel sounds fine but is there something I should spray into the cylinders?
