Tiger Coming on the Market

Hi Tiger Fans,

Being new to this forum I am rather reluctant to jump in with both feet but here's the situation. (There is a question at the end, so bear with me.) I bought my 1965 Tiger new and put 110K miles on it before storing it when I went overseas in 1981. Storage isn't the kindest thing to do to a Tiger and bringing her back to a life she deserves may be more than I am willing to undertake. My goal is to have her running by the end of the year and probably actively market her in the spring. The car was never significantly modified and the body is in good shape. There is a non-stock steering wheel and the front grill has been removed.

I don't think that there is any serious rust. I stripped the body down to bare metal in 1976 and had it repainted with a lacquer. Poor choice for a naval officer who had to leave his car on the pier periodically. I think seagulls love forest green. The paint is very brittle and will have to be removed and a few dings from falling objects pushed out before refinishing. Probably everything that is soft will have to be replaced to restore the car to its former glory.

Given that, it is a good solid basis for a restoration project. Original sales documentation as well a complete maintenance history. Some of that is in my head but I won't hold anything back.

Contact me if you want further information. I will be disposed to parting with the car at any stage of this project but warn you that this isn't a give away program; a fair price for solid value.

If you are still with me, I have completely disassembled the brake system and cleaned out all the crystalized brake fluid and decomposed rubber. Everything is on hand to put it back together except for the repair kit for the 5" servo. No one in the US seems to have that in stock. Found the kit in the UK at Sunbeam Supreme Co. for ÂŁ32. They also offer rebuilt ones for ÂŁ160. Has anyone had any experience with this source?

Looking forward to the exchange.

Cheers,

John Peterson

I've heard questionable things about the owner and delivering stuff, particularly when the requestor is out of the country. I have no personal experience so take it for what it's worth.
