'New' Alpine!

Well, I talked about my 'old' 67 that I was hoping to restore to good running condition someday. My impatience got the better of me and I'm now the 'almost' happy owner of a much better 67 in addition to the old one. I struck a good deal for one and it was delivered to me (700 mile trailering) about a week ago. Cosmetically it's about 85-90% including a very nice Carnival Red paint job over the original light blue.

While it was running when it got here (albeit roughly) it suddenly decided to quit. I spent the last week troubleshooting it, including replacing points, plugs, condensor, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, and tracing out the ignition wiring. The fuel pump has been supplanted by an electric pump plus a filter and a regulator to keep it from overpressure.

After a whole week of frustration (due to my mechical ineptitude) I'm turning it over to a mechanic near my office tomorrow. Coincidentally, he's working on another Alpine so I know he's aware of the car(he can practice on the other one ;-))

I hope to have good news tomorrow afternoon and maybe I'll actually be driving my new toy around!

THEN I can start on the remaining 10-15%!

"Duh" is starting to become my mantra lately. I found out that despite the thought that I knew what I was doing, the plug wires were 180 degrees out. Also, the fuel regulator was pumping way too much fuel from the electric fuel pump (still is, I think, after turning it way down). But although it idles roughly (carbs need work?), and it's hard to start, it runs pretty nicely and I took it on a 100 mile round trip last weekend. I also had a new exhaust installed (stainless from SS in Campbell). Now it's on to all the dozens of little things, but at least I can have fun driving it while I'm working on it!!

I acquired a spare set of CD150s for it and am going to strip these down and rebuild them. Aside from "clean them thoroughly", are there any words of wisdom on this task?
