Hello all,
I too are among those restoring a Sunbeam tiger Mk1a.. it has been an interesting journey commencing around x-mas 98. The car as just been painted this weekend... I have learned a great deal. I have put in a few tricks that I hope to show later. Like four wheel disks and a secondary booster placed near the fuel pump. An aluminum "firewall" separating the fuel cells from the passenger compartment. I have modified the fuel cells to each have their own fuel gauge sender unit and have re routed the crossover connection between the two much more inward than stock. I have upgraded the structure of the car by reinforcing the deck rear of the seats to get a functional roll bar.
I would agree with the post on adding the welded "liner" for the cut outs of the cross member. Not only will this act as a rust inhibitor. It will strenghten the x-member..
I have another english car.. A 1974 Jensen-Healy but this car need nothing I bought it with 29,000 miles on the clock and have only added 6 more in the 3 years I have owned it.. This car has required very litte care... (ok when put next to my 1994 Alfa 164 LS 5sp that is).. that car, the alfa, has caused me to wear out two floor jacks, over the period I have worked on it..
Ok enough for now ...
