Internal hinge converted to external?

Okay, I have to fit less rusty doors to my Clubman van. The doors are unique apparently to the Australian K minis, and have external hinges and windup windows. I'm not worried about the originality aspect so an easier option than sourcing the exact doors will be to adapt internal hinged doors to external. I have the original doors, so all the fittings are there.

How difficult will this be to do? Are the doors similar enough that I can just drill and bolt the external hinges on?

As far as I know, the internally hinged doors (MkIII) are higher than the MkI doors.
Then again, if you have some "down-under special",
who knows...
Hinge reinforcement in the door might be an issue as well.

The Aussie doors are the only ones with roll up windows and external hinges (plus that neat vent window) as far as I know.

As to whether or not they'd fit a Clubman......hmmmm.

You'll have to do some fancy measuring to see if they're the same size and shape. Also, you may have to add some reinforcement to your Clubman where the hinges are going to be bolted (or welded) on.

Do you just like Aussie-type doors....or can't you find any Clubman replacements?

Well most of the Australian minis were "K" series (for Kangaroo apparently) and had these unique doors with lift up door handles, external hinges and windup windows. I can maybe get one LH skin, or doors from a wrecker in Australia. According to the guys here, it's like a Mk 1 door but with the changes as detailed above. I think I'll have to find the right ones rather than adapt something.

I "think" that the Australian Clubman and Mini K doors are the same size , but someone may prove me wrong. It stands to reason though, as Australian production was small by world standards they tended to use the same sheetmetal for longer than elsewhere in the world. (Not just Leyland either, GM Ford & Chrysler all did it). I have never had to swap a door, but would be surprised if they didn,t fit.I know a young bloke in the brick club (Mini club) a bit and should see him in a couple of weeks, he is more into mokes but I recon he will know for shure, so I will try to remember to ask him. As for getting doors over here it shouldn't be a problem, there are plenty of Minis being wrecked over here, and I think the eastern states would be the same. The freight from Sydney or Melbourne would be a lot better for you than from Perth though, so I would suggest you try there first if you decide to get one from Oz.
