TR6 TR6 trailing Arms bushing removal?

I having trouble removing the old bushings from some trailing arms I bought on e-bay. Can I burn/melt them? or with that also melt/ damage the aluminum trailing arm?

Do a search - you can get them out easily with a $50 arbor press or with a long length of threaded rod and some bolts.

I've always used a little bottle jack. Use one "ear" and place the base of the jack against it, put a bolt in the bushing, and press away.

I guess I'll go back and give it another try.. The first time my threaded rod snapped and all my washers bent under the stress.

Larry,

I pushed one out with a large C-clamp, some washers and a socket. The others I burned out. I didn't heat the entire section of the trailing arm. I focused the propane torch on the end of the bushing. Ince it catches on file it started to swell and popped half way out on it's own.

i'd use fire. i dont think it would cause a problem with the aluminium.

Got them finally! Used WD-40 to help them slide. The second trailing arm was no problem.

If you get a big enough "Pitman Arm Puller" they come right out after soaking overnight with a rust buster. Once you get the center pushed out, the rubber is easy.

My old ones almost fell out; guess I was right to replace them. The giveaway was that my 6 wanted to chang lanes every gearshift. Always wondered what rear steering was like, kinda scary.
