With this country's facination of late with Four doors...in almost every segment..

Will the new mini suceed...?

Or will it need 4 doors to get volume sales like the PT Cruiser?

I say yes. I think it is going to be a big hit! Especially if it is reliable (imagine that - a reliable Little British Car). I think with BMW's influence it is going to be very popular. Just my opinion, but time will tell.

I've seen the detail work on the production car..what a beauty..

The price should take it to new heights of success...

even if its only 2 doors..the target buyers should go nuts over it..

Needs a supercharger and more power which are coming I believe to better compete in the performance arena that the kids like..

Full line of performance modifications as well that they can afford.

I'd like to think that _someone_ will continue to market 2-doors for those of us who don't care for "all-doors".

Remember way-back-when when the VW Beetle, only available as a 2-door, battled for 1st place in import sales with the Renault Dauphine, only available as a 4-door? A puzzle...

I can think of lots of cars that would('ve) been neat to own if they only came in 2-door variations. Riley 1.5, MG Magnette, how about the new Jag S-type?

Wow, that's a lot of horses for such a tiny little car. Don't know if I'd want to go 135 in something that small, even if I could

But it is a cool little car and I would seriously consider one if (when) they sell them here.

Actually, as a classic Mini owner, the new Mini doesn't seem like such a small car. After all, it is about 1 and a half feet wider and 2 feet longer than the Minis before 2001. Of course, unless one is into racing on a race track, I would certainly debate the wisdom of 135 mph in anything.

In my youth I have been that fast in a Jag E-Type (and faster). Very scary knowing a rabbit in the road could end it all for you. Have you taken our online poll about the new Mini vs Old Mini? Also, do you have pics of your mini you can post here? (and send me some so I can put them on our Member's gallery

I think the success of New Mini depends entirely on how it is marketed. Remember, the Original Mini was not a huge success in the States-I know people who only know what one is because they've had to listen to me go on about how neat the Original Mini is. The New Beetle really didn't need any marketing at all-do you know anyone under the age of six or so who doesn't know what a Beetle is? If the marketers can convince us that we need to buy a retro car based around the style cues of a car that wasn't sold here in very large numbers sometime in the sixties, then yes it will be a success. I don't mean to sound jaded about it, but that's what it boils down to- there's no national consciousness about Minis like there is in England.
