Just got back from an outing in my Healey...
Not to make anyone back east feel bad, it started out great - a sunny day with blue skies here in southern California - went for a ride down the Pacific Coast Highway in the Huntington Beach area. Got a couple of errands done, stopped for a late afternoon matinee at the local movie house, left the theater about 6:00 p.m., in the dark.
About a mile from home, heard a funny (not the usual) ticking sound coming from my fuel pump. Realized I was OUT OF GAS. Chugged along for a couple of blocks, then felt absolutely nothing when I stepped on the accelerator. I was just COASTING. Headed for the Chevron station I could see about two blocks away. Didn't have to run the red light that was a block away - it turned green, thank goodness. Had enough momentum to go up the driveway, past an "out of order" pump, and roll to a dead stop in front of a working one.
And yes, I checked the gas gauge before I left home. I thought it would be enough for the day's outing, but I was just having such a good time, I travelled more miles than I had gallons of gas!
