A 35 van differential sought

I'm looking for a useable 4.875 (8/39) differential that--according to my info--was originally fit to an Austin A 35 van. This will work in the Morris rear axle of my Elva Courier.

I'm also putting this up on the Spridget and "Other British Cars" forums.

Michael...this may be your lucky day...I recently just purchased an A-35 and received an email from the following individual....maybe he still has the driveline..GOOD LUCK.

Hi, I have a 1957 Austin A35 that I have taken apart and the complete drive is surplus to my needs. Any interest? tks waynedfl@yahoo.com

I sent him an email--frankly I am amazed that anyone has an A 35 much less a surplus driveline! What an amazing resource this list is. Thanks for the reference.

That's why I bought it I had been an open air LBC roadster fan for quite sometime..but when I saw the A-35 for sale..I knew I had to have it...as said...there can't be many of them in the states..the gent I bought it from is BRITISH and brought it over with him from the UK a few years back....

Yes--

He got back to me and told me that he believed what he had was a 4.22 but would check. The 4.875 was apparently used only in the van--for an interesting article on the Morris rear axle and the various differential applications go to:

In any case thanks for the help.

too bad...since I had acquired an A-35 Van I just assumed that a Van was what he had parted out..guess it just says an A-35 now that I look back at the message..sorry I'll need to keep my drive train, but will keep an eye out for you....maybe it'll be the 4.875 you know them BRITS and thanks for the link always nice to have reference material.

Michael - If still in need, try Gary - I am always amazed what he has or can find. :

See you at Lime Rock on Monday - have fun!

Peter - just occurs to me - a 4.8, man you must be pulling some serious revs! 4.1 or 4.2 worked fine for my old Mini almost everywhere - once even ran a stock 3.4 at Pocono.

Holy crap, were you gonna run a 4.88 in a Elva? We never needed anything any lower than a 4.5 in a 948 to turn 9000 on any road course. FWIW, 4.55s locked and slipped diffs are quickly becoming a dime-a-dozen due to fact most folks in SCCA HP are swapping to the 1275 LP motor and no longer need the 4.5s with the 1275.

Wow!...I run a 3.7 w/ a CR box and first is still low enough for a good wheel spin/Auto-X launch.

Don't think I'd get any of it to the ground with a 4.8

But it might be fun to try /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif
