BN6 battery access panel - photos inside

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone might have some photos of what the inside of the BN6 battery access panel should look like - my car has a single twelve volt battery and today I found the battery cable was floating around unsecured, and had actually worn the insulation off the cable, by rubbing against the prop shaft uni joint! Needless to say I'd like to get that sorted out quick smart, but wherever I have looked, I can't seem to find a photo of the correct layout of the battery and cable. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers, Bill.

Hi Bill, I own a BN7 which should be similar with the two six volt batteries in place. I don't have any photo's but I suggest you buy the correct six volt batteries and install them in the battery locations and tighten them securely with the hold downs. The cable that connects the two batteries forms an "S" from one to the other. It really shouldn't be anywhere near the driveshaft, I don't know how it could even come in contact unless the battery hold downs loosened and allowed the batteries to "bounce" around a bit.

Hi Bill, Can you supply a picture of your single battery installation then we may be able to suggest methods to get the cable out of harms way. I like the Idea of a single 12 volt unit >---Fwiw---Keoke

I believe your car originally had the RH battery connected with one terminal going to the starter & the other crossing over the center to the LH battery via a short jumper. The LH battery then went on to ground via the cutoff switch. The cross jumper was anchored with a cable clip near the center of the hinge mounting surface. High out of harms way.

If the 12 volt battery is located in the RH box, you could use a longer ground cable across the top jumper from the battery to the original cutoff switch.

Alternately, you could create a new ground point on the RH side & run a shorter ground cable.

I mounted a 12 volt battery in the RH box, crossed over to a new battery switch mounted behind the drivers seat, & then to the original ground point. See attached pics.

Thanks Dave for the detailed info and photos and to everyone for their replies. The photos are exactly what I was after. Needless to say the car isn't getting driven again until this problem gets sorted
