Coils and ballast resistors

May car, which isn't a P6 2200, has, because I put one in, a P6 2200 engine.

Now, it has a coil with no label, so I don't know what voltage it is, I will check the resistance to see if that helps, [edit - it's 1.7 ohms]I think the choice is to chuck this coil and buy a 12v one, but I don't know what spec to ask for - it's no good asking for a P6 2200, cos I will get a 7v one, so does anyone have a spec, or a model that has a suitable 12v one?

Alternatively I could get a ballast resistor, but I don't know the spec for that either, and if I can't identify the coil it probably doesn't help much.

[Edit] I decided that the easiest solution was to chuck the coil and buy another one, so you can ignore the question now!

Any suggestions?

Land Rovers aren't something I have worked on but I noticed your thread title when the forum list page opened up.

If you're looking for a good 12V coil, one that is readily available and reliable, consider the Bosch Blue Coil. This is a very good, standard 12V coil that's been used for decades. Over the years it's been one of the common replacements for Lucas coils.

The Rover 2000 and 2200 use a 12v coil.... with no ballast resistor........although later models may have used the ballast resistor......i can send you an original coil for the 2200 if you need one
