Well, it's not British, but it's old and just as much fun as the TR6. Rode the 1971 BMW (R60/5 - 600cc) from Dallas to a little town just south of Springfield, Mo, and back in two days. It was exactly 900 miles round trip. Hard rain about half of the time just made it more interesting.
The old thing never missed a beat, returning 50mpg and leaving me at the end of 450 miles still looking for more.
The purpose of the trip was simply to prove its roadworthiness, and it passed with honors. Just like in the car world, there is always someone quick to point out any minor flaw. I wasn't at the rally site five minutes when some character came up to let me know that the color is not right for the year model. I just told him that that was not the only thing that was not right, and walked away.
Photo taken just before climbing on Friday morning.
