Am I In The Wrong Place????

Nobody here has ever taken the vinyl roof off of a TVR?
I have a hard time believing that, but my previous post has no replies. C'mon buys, help me out! I don't want to find out after I've already done it that I shouldn't have.

No, plenty of people have done it, but perhaps they're just not reading this forum frequently enough. If you don't get a reply in the next week or so, let me know and I can put a blurb in the next TVR Times asking for input on the best way to accomplish it.

It is most likely not painted underneath the vinal. Some TVRs had a "painted on" top, and they looked like sprayed on rubberized undercoating. That was painted black for cosmetic reasons. I suspect that they used vinal tops to hide cracking. If you take the glass out, the top is pretty flimsy. If you hate the vinal, go for it, but plan to repaint the area.

Thanks. I plan on doing a complete restoration, so the paint condition under the vinyl isn't a concern, just the condition of the fiberglass. I'm just trying to get an idea what to expect and how to deal with it.

I'm wondering if you might want to cross polinate and ask your question in the Restoration forum here. Unless there is something unique about the TVR roof, maybe someone has removed vinyl from the roof of some other car and the process might be the same?

I may try that, but the big question in my mind isn't how to remove the top, but what I should expect to see under it, and that may be pretty specific to the fiberglass roof of the TVR.

That's true as most cars with vinyl roofs are probably steel.
