Pertronix ignitor in Jensen healey

I have recently purchased the ignitor ignition for my '74 JH. The distributor was pulled from the engine in order to identify the distributor model. Any advice on dos & don'ts to I shoud be wary of when installing the ignitor and replacing the distributor? Thanks all.

"[Edit] Oops, some of this didn't get copied over from the other thread. It should begin: I called Pertronix today and talked to Carl in their tech support (909) 599-5955....

Told him our story (about a handful of units failing right after initial startup), and told him my theory (that the units were being damaged during the static timing procedure that some people used). He agrees, that it's probably the static timing method.

Carl says if the key is left on for more than 30-45 seconds, the unit can be damaged from overheating.

Carl also says the correct way to static time is to hook a 12 volt light bulb between the NEGATIVE terminal on the coil and ground. When the light changes brightness, that's your firing point.

In my opinon.....leave the Pertonix out until you've got her running and all dialed in.
