Original carpets...replace?

I am planning to take my '62 Sprite MKII to an All British Field Meet (my first) in a couple of weeks. She is all original, and I plan to enter her in that class. But the carpets are very worn...if I put in new ones, will that compromise my "unrestored" status?

Thanks,
Anita of the pink Sprite

--Hi AnitaO, "All Original" is used in such a broad sense in our car world, that a definite answer can not be rendered. However, to be on the safe side, I suggest that you contact the sponsoring group and see what their specific requirements are regarding that class for the cars.---Fwiw--Keoke

keoke, i guess if ones cars engine was blown youd have to push it to a meet so it would be considered all "original" /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Ah, but is was...though they called it "deep pink". Someone told us they only made 50 of them, then discontinued the color because they couldn't sell them all (hard to believe!) - anyone know if that is true?

Bibber,
Yes, we have a couple of original '62 brochures, and she's definately in there, just as she looks now (ok, maybe a touch newer) In fact, the folks we bought her from out here in Washington bought her from the second owner, who was in NEBRASKA...but you never saw her around, eh? Too bad.

OH yea...that one! It was owned by a one legged cross eyed Mary Kay Sales lady who stuttered heavily....word word has has it she was robbed and left in the trunk. She was not found for months and the car still wreaks today of cheap Mary Kay cosmetic fragrances and can be smelled coming from miles away!!! We all wondered back here in NEBRASKA whatever happened to that car....it was a NEBRASKA ICON for years..they were planning on calling the NEBRASKA HUSKERS "GO BIG PINK" but had to change it to "GO BIG RED" and make that silly farmer their mascot instead of PRILLEY the SPRIDGET....now OLLEY the TROLLEY has taken on the role....WOW what a find!!!

AnitoO - Oh get crazy and go with the new carpet...I'm betting you gotta be the only there with original DEEP PINK!!!!!!

Hi Anita, I wrote Terry Horler for the British Restoration book and he said there were very few built. I have the letter I'll fax it to you if you want. I own a deep pink 62 also. I also wrote to you today after finally finding an address. Se mine at www.freewebs.com/lgrunthaner.
I'll be restoring mine to look as nice as yours.

Anita,
What year did you buy her? I was looking at one in Washington a few years ago when I bought my 62 Deep Pink one also.

Must have been Barbies second choice after the Big Healey!,
I would suggest is all original has the meaning of "it has not been modified", and carpet would be judged as a consumable that needed replacement from time to time not unlike tyres

You COULD have both and keep the original carpets after putting in the new carpets. Then you would be able to produce them if someone asked. Just a thought......
