Is this Heater Control Cable broken?

Please examine this heater control cable pic and tell
me what you think.

The outter sheath becomes disconnected as shown with the
ball point pen used as a pointer.

When the knob is pulled, the cable works fine. When the
knob is pushed in order to close or turn off the heater,
the outter sheath of the cable comes apart from the back
of the switch and, or course, the heater does not shut off.

Sounds broken. These parts are sold in pieces. Don't
want to wait to receive new pieces to find identical to
what I have.

Please copy and paste the web site address to view the pic and tell me what you think.

Thanks.

Yep, it's broken. Trade you a new one for that light thingy.

You will have to get a new one. As you say, it will open, but not close. I have to close the heater valve on my head the last few millimeters (oops, for got we don't use Metric in my TR6...about last 1/4") by hand.

You can try jambing it back together and hitting it with a BFH but that might only work for a while.

Like to say I could make the trade, Bill, but that
wouldn't be so hot.

Did you contact Victoria British at the web site I
give ya?

The thing didn't say NA, so I'm hoping you can buy brand
new what you need. Think it was around $60.
About half the profit of a prophy, huh?

TRF has them for $31.50. Mine's been on backorder for about two months....

2wrench,

I inherited the same problem with my 6. I removed the whole assembly, squeezed the parts back together and ran some JB Weld around the joint. I put some greast to make life easier on the assembly. It's held for 3 years, but I admit I don't use the heat much! (just to defog during heavy rains) Hopefully the pix came out with enough detail.

The cable has to make a sharp right bend to get around the heater box, which speeds seperation of the sheath from the main control part.

2Wrench: That looks like something that could easily be brased. I would fit the parts back together and brase them, or take it to someone who can. Seems a pity to get rid of a nice original part.

Definitely work some lithium grease in the cable sheath before reassembly.
A mini hose clamp applied around the sheath, may help the bond when you do it
