Woops......Didn't read the "What's this car thread".

Spoiled smcmanus' fun.

Kind of a Rochdale-Grantura looking thing

Check out those funky turn signals.

Looks like there's a Sprite under there somewhere.

What:

I don't doubt you, but this photo was taken at Summit Point. At the Jeferson 500, I think.

Speedwell Sprite with a cutom fastback top?

I kind of like the front view, but the back... er, um, its... different.

The registration is potentially quite valuable, back in Olde Englande. Of course the car would have to be re-patriated, and then put on the road- inspected and all that, but such registrations as "RMD 3" are valuable.

I went to a site that trades them:

https://www.regtransfers.co.uk/

plugged in the car's number to its search facility, and it turned out a close match:

"8 RMD" offered for sale for just £9990

Now, "RMD 3" might be worth more, it might be worth less- but its bound to be worth a little something, if it were marketable back in its homeland....

Quite correct, Kenny! The entry list says Speedwell GT, but I think it's usually referred to as a Speedwell Sprite.

Ok - JamesWilson - why oh why are those registrations worth so much? Makes no sense why someone would pay £9990 for one.

The UK doesn't issue personalized plates as is done in many American states. So these plates that could spell out people's initials can be traded for substantial sums.

This was discussed previously here:

https://www.britishcarforum.com/ubbthread...true#Post202901

I think the most expensive one was recently traded for something like £300K. I think that it might have been "S 1 NGH"... spelling the name "Singh"... but I could be wrong....

Len: “You can pay from less than a hundred pound to one or two that we’ve got for half a million.”

DJ: “Half a million?!”

Len: “Half a million. That’s the asking price currently.”

DJ: “And people pay that?”

Len: “They haven’t yet. But in the scheme of things, these are the antiques of the number plate business. These are things like ‘V1’, ‘X1’, ‘E1’ and ‘Y1’, which are all issued in 1904.”

DJ: “Coh! And which is the most expensive one you’ve come across?”

Len: “All those four are half a million pounds currently.”

Hey, that's pretty funny!
I've actually *raced* against that car!
It's a Speedwell Sprite. All stock except for a 'cooking' 1275 cc engine. The car was once owned by Graham Hill.

Here's a race video from #11 following that car:

Awsome video. Loved the smoke from the tires about 3/4 way in.

I've seen that Speedwell Sprite before, the owner came to Mosport one year with it, maybe 2003... The owner told me it was the genuine article, which makes it very rare...

The ebay listing is odd. Why would you have pushrods in a sidevalve E93A engine?
BTW, I was wrong in the "What's this car?" thread, but that didn't show the back. Anyway, tempus fugited too much.
