I think the last time I posted was Oct and I indicated that I was going to redo the shocks, u-joints, rebound straps etc, while the snow lay on the ground. Well I finally got ambitious, and man-o-man what a project. I don't think anything has been changed since 1974. It averaged four hours per back shock, and 8 per front. I ended up taking the front shocks completly apart to finally get the fulcrum bolt out, I tried wd-40, heat, and a really big hammer and no way was it coming out, good thing I own a swiss army knife,as it was the major tool used in the repair. I did however, finish the job and today was the return to "mg" cruising. The car rides and sounds like a million bucks. If anybody wants some hints on how to make the job easier feel free to ask me, I've already made all the mistakes.

I am with you Don! I too, have spent a great deal of time disassembling my front suspension...not just the shocks, but everything back to the frame. I have new V-8 bushings and grease retainers and washers, new springs and various other parts that looked bad to me. The kingpins were in good shape and are in the laundry tub along with all the individual parts of the A-arms, springpans, tierods and other parts, waiting for it to be warm enough to paint outside with POR15...it's not 60 degrees yet here in PA ;-(

I am ready to send my shocks somewhere to be rebuilt and returned...any recommendations for where to get the shocks done?

Hi Don, I agree what a job! I'm in upstate NY and am getting close to that time of year to get the B out, thought I would rebuild the front end over the winter, sounded easy enough. The job was going well, replaced a bunch of parts, sandblasted, powder coated and painted the rest. Came to the time to start putting things back together, yeah ha, or so I thought. Things were going good until it was time to insert the shock trunion into the shock arm, and so my problem how in the heck do you do that? I've tried prying pulling spreading, coating with brake fluid and nothing works, I'm begining to think I've got the wrong parts! Do I have to seperate the shock arm or am I missing something? Thanks in advance for your help. John

I had a rough time getting mine apart and found that if backed off the pressure on the spring by jacking up the A-arm a little and wiggling that the Trunion bolt moved easier. I also have loosened the bolt on the arm to give a little more play there. One more tip...I don't know if you have the sway bar disconnected, but highly recommend that it be unhooked to prevent any unwanted torque from that side.

Thanks for eveyones suggestion on the shocks. I emailed and called World Wide and shipped the shocks yesterday. They promised a one-week turnaround and a money back guaratanty. Real nice people to deal with so far.
