New Jensen Healey Owner

I've acquired a "new" Jensen Healey. First registered Dec., 1972 so its a pretty early one. As far as I can tell it has only 29K miles on it, the bodywork seems in really good condition, though the engine seeps oil from every pore and burns it too- 3 liters in 200 miles!

But its a lot of fun so far.

And the electrics have already started playing up....

    Oh Lordy, Lordy!

    3 liters in 200 miles!

But the really sick part is that I'm sort of jealous!

    It *is* a disease!

They're going to go, that'll be my first big improvement. I've sort of found a set of used seats in unknown condition to go and look at later this week and have already priced a pair of leather trimmed ones () so something more suitable may soon appear....

It stinks of gas/petrol so I'm tracking down a fuel leak of some kind. And I've got a Halogen headlight conversion kit for the 3000 that might get "tested"....

[/ QUOTE ]Very common. It's probably hard to find a JH with a trunk, er, boot that doesn't smell at least a little like gas. The fuel tank and pump are the usual suspects.

Remove the back wall of the boot (if it's still there) and inspect the pump and fuel lines.

Also inspect the fuel tank and the pad it sits on. It's common for the seal around the outside of the fuel filler to leak and allow water to dribble down to the tank and pad. The pad soaks with water and stays wet so the floor or tank or both rust out.

    Re: New Jensen Healey Owner

    Thanks.

I filled it up and then went zooming around a few corners.

No big, or even small puddles.

But one of the hoses to the fuel pump seemed much too damp, so its a candidate for replacement... seems too simple but I've got my fingers crossed.

Now all I have to do is use most of tankful to get the level down.

And then I'll figure out what's wrong with the fuel gauge/sender/wiring....

So how do I pull the instrument panel from the dash? One corner is pretty free but I hesitate to give it a big pull....

I havenít had to pull an instrument cluster so I donít know. That would be a good question to post over on the Jensen Healey Preservation Society board. (And I would highly recommend joining the JHPS.)

I've joined the JHPS and also the British JOC; and have ordered some of the documentation available but haven't received it yet...

No Haynes manual, comes with the limited volume....

    Re: New Jensen Healey Owner

I did, and the cold, rainy dark night makes a conversion to a set of Halogen headlights top of my list.

    The list is certainly growing....

And I'll need to sort the de-mister out too....
