Hello,

If you read my last question you know I have had some problems with my speedometer in my 1973 MGB. I recently changed out yet another speedometer I purchased on eBay. After I had made the change I drove the car around the block to see if everything was working. Now my gauges no-longer have lights and I can not read the dials without a flash light. So now I have a daytime only driver. Any suggestions?

Hello Jim,
further to Chuck's suggestion, most LBC have the instrument earths on a ring terminal which is connected to one of the Speedometer (or Tachometer) securing studs, easily missed when re-assembling, fumbling behind the dash. Black cable, by the way.

In regard to the problem of guage lights, my 1969 MGB had the same thing. The garage dealing with the restoration told me it was the panel light switch control, which is the knob above the steering wheel which dims the interior dials. If your car has this, this could be the problem. The garage has rectified it by unwiring the guages from it so they cannot be dimmed but will work. This keeps the authenticity of having the switch still in place, but costs next to nothing compared with replacing it.
