Hi Mike,
Bummer!
It's little consolation, but we've all done something similar at one time or another.
Those emblems show up used on everbodys' fav auction site from time to time, and might also be available from used parts vendors (some of which might overcharge for this sort of thing). Hood emblems are available brand new from the usual sources, too, but pretty pricey.
Why do I know? Well, I carefully removed the emblem from my TR4 in the 1970s and "packed it away for safe keeping". Now I've considered reinstalling it, but can't recall where I put it and it hasn't shown up in any of the places I'd expected (so in other words it's quite safe... from me).
So, I've considered just picking up another one, but haven't been able to talk myself into that yet. It's pretty certain I'll find the original one very shortly after buying any new/used one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Heck, I've even had some crazy thoughts of filling in all the emblem and lettering holes on the car and, in the course of the new paint job having a good painter/pinstriper render painted versions of each, in the original locations, then clear coating over them.
A really good specialist painter can work wonders, making letters/emblems appear three dimensional, perhaps even using silver leaf to simulate chrome. Done right, it might look cool. OTOH, the original "old-school" chromed metal badges and individual letters are one of the things you just don't see on cars any more, replaced by decals and stick-on plastic. So I'll probably be ruminating about the idea for a while. No rush, since the finish painting won't be done any time soon and no decision absolutely has to be made yet.
