Hi, My name is Jon. I'm new to the forum and I'm trying to find a good place or places to buy a rebuilt 1275cc. engine. Nothing fancy just a strong stock motor. I was hopeing to find one west of the rocky mountains but anywhere would work also. If anyone out there has any info or input I shure would be thankfull

Because he is!! If you have the bux, Tom can build you a great engine that will do whatever you want it to!! Daily driver would be real easy for him!! One that turns 7K without a problem?? He can do that too!!

Tom's daily driver midget has about 130 hp, on the street, with pump gas. If you got the money, there is no better MG mechanic than Tom

Let me ask this question then. Has anyone out there ever had Tom build them a engine? It would be nice to hear some input from people who have one of Tom's power plants under their bonnet.

I think you should e-mail Tom or call him tomorrow!! I don't have an engine from Tom and I have never met him personally, but anybody that has ever done any business with him has had nothing but good things to say!! He is very thorough and will not do something the wrong way to save a buck!!! If I was in the market for an engine, I would buy one from him sight unseen!! There are some people in this world that you just know you can trust!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

I plan on getting in touch with him on monday Gary. I'm a little concerned about the cost of shipping a block back and forth from Tenn. but I guess I'll have to look into that also. If anyone out there has one of Tom's engines or knows of a quality place to get a rebuilt 1275 in the west I'd be interested to hear.

The price of shipping will all depend on how fast you want it!! It shouldn't be bad!!

JV,

The motor in my MGB was rebuilt by Tom Bedenbaugh here in Memphis. The motor is extremely smooth and has lots of low end torque. The previous owner had no mods done to the engine except for an unleaded head. The engine has 75 lbs of oil pressure at speed.

I got a deal for you!!! I have a disassembled 1275cc Midget motor that shows very little wear. This would be a great candidate for Tom to rebuild. I can deliver the block, head, carbs, etc to Tom so you won't pay shipping both ways. E-mail me about what you want to spend for the motor.

Well I emailed Tom, it seems unanimous opinion says I should have him do it. David, how much do you want to sell me that engine and cart it over to Tom's? Is it complete enough for his needs? Email me at vona84320@juno.com

Thanks David, as I said in my email I got it covered.Tom sure has some glowing references. Now do any of you guys want to give me your thoughts on what mods I should be looking to do. What would you do if it was yours (without getting to carried away). David, did Tom build your B stock or hi-performance?

Tom built the motor for the previous owner of the car. He had an unleaded conversion done for the head which I am sure included 3-angle valve seats. A stock cam was installed which I've heard is really the best combination for everyday driving. Tom also drilled the crankshaft for better oil flow to the bearings. The engine was also balanced which made a world of difference in the smoothness of the engine.

For the 1275cc Midget I would assume a good start would be a cam, ported and polished head, and getting the engine balanced. Tom knows all the tricks so he would be the expert!!

Like David says, Tom knows what to do!!! He will give you your options and then you decide!!! Personally, I never do an engine without balancing it!! I also always use bronze guides and, of course, hardened seats!! I used a 270 cam in my 'B engine and it could not be beat!! Lots of power thru all the rev's!! I also ported and polished my head and it really made a difference!! Trust Tom and you can't go wrong!!!!
