I have noticed many TR6 radios for sale on Ebay. I am picky about getting what would have gone into my year car, a 69 TR6. Does anyone have a picture of and origninal radio for this year? Thanks, Kevin

There is no such thing as an original radio. The various distributors were privately owned at the time and all operated differently. Some simply let their dealers install whatever they wanted. Others forced a model of their choice on all dealers. At the distributor where I worked, in central US, they all got Panasonic radios.

The radios for sale have the Triumph logo on the faceplate. Was this just put over each brand to make it fit into the space on the center console?
Thanks, Kevin

My '75 has a British Leyland radio. So did my '71 TR6. WHen I was driving the '71 in the early '70s the local dealer had BL radios in stock. They came in a box along with the antenna. I believe the box was blue and white.

Who needs a radio when you have the best sounding exhaust on the road? Just my 2 cents.

It is the case that BL sold radios, but the margin was so small that few distributors used them. Sorry, I forgot that option, so there were probably some cars that were delivered new with a radio that had the correct logo on the faceplate. However, none were installed at the factory, and in fact, those 'factory' radios with the BL logo were some American brand, Motorola if I recall correctly.

Radiomobile were another option - manufactured by Smiths in the U.K.

[/ QUOTE ]Possibly, but a great number of them -- at least the earlier radios with "Triumph" logos -- were Bendix. And taking this minutia one step further, some of those were found with a small "gf" logo, for Genser-Forman, the Triumph distributor in NY, NJ and PA and later in even more of the Northeast.

My '74 TR6 had a pretty cheap radio by todays standards. IT had a switch to toggle AM to FM and there was no HIFI sound or STERO. I don't remember if it had a BL or Triumph logo. I am pretty far from it at this time but if you want it and I can locate it, you can have it. It may have codes stamped a little later than your car.
