The National Poets Challenge was just about finished.
The competing poets had , for the most part, been less than entertaining and the audience was looking forward to the conclusion.
Suddenly, the Master of Ceremony was called to the side of the stage and returning to the podium he announced there would be one more competitor, a boy named Bill.
A young timid boy of 10 walked out onto the stage and began to recite a poem which was so inspirational and spellbinding the audience sit in awe.
When the boy finished, there was a massive cheer from the audience followed by a thunderous applause.
The Master of Ceremony stepped to the podium and announced that it was obvious who the winner would be.
He turned to the Bill and said “For that performance, you may select anything in the house as a prize.”
Bill pointed at a stuffed gray, white and black bird which was on display just off stage and said “I would like that.”
The MC retrieved the bird and handed it to the boy.
As the boy turned and walked back thru the curtains with his prize the audience again began to applauded and began cheering “Encore. Encore…Encore…”
The MC walked backstage thru the curtains and shortly returned.
Holding up his hand to quite the people he announced “Bill would have been happy to give an encore however it would seem he has taken a Tern for the Verse. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
