I was recently looking through my image archives for a new Windows wallpaper when I found this. I believe someone here may have posted this some time ago and I grabbed it. I'm now using this as my wallpaper, it's a really cool shot IMO and a gorgeous car. Trouble is, I don't know what it is. Can someone help me out here so I don't feel like an idiot when someone here at work asks me what it is. I know it's not a D-type, but beyond that I'm stuck.

GRAZI!

And I should PM you with some "other OSCA" info: Ever get yer hands or eyeballs on a 151 Maser? I've a "project" looming on the horizon you may get a charge out of.

Never even saw a type 151 that I can recall. Big iron. I'm all ears!

(DrE's reference to "other OSCA" is a reference to the OSCA company having been started & run by the Maserati brothers after they left their namesake company).

That is a beautiful car - very sexy lines. Great picture too! 750cc? Wow, I'da thought something much bigger under the bonnet.

Them fellas made some VERY elegant equipment in their short run. I've been fortunate to have "laid hands" on some of the examples. Tho doin' a Ghibli water pump R&R would not be my "favorite" job /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks for the info guys. What years was this car produced? Were there any road going versions of the type or only racers?

The Ghibli is probably my favorite modern Maser. I just love the thing for some reason, especially the spyder. I'm jealous you've gotten to play with one Doc, ever drive it?

About 19 of the 750cc cars were made, along with one or two 950cc versions. All were made only for racing. Years were roughly 1956-1960.

I don't know how many still exist, I imagine about 14 or 15 of them.

Most jewel-like cars I've ever seen.

Some interesting info on a couple of them at:

Spotted this baby at Road America last summer. This one was competing, but I believe they were meant for road use as well. Used Fiat twinks, IIRC.

Yes, I think so.

Here's a few more 750 OSCA shots (mostly).

I wouldn't want you to have to expand your place yet again, and think of all the new books & manuals (Marelli, Weber, Borrani, etc) you'd need. They'd take up horrific amounts of space, along with the Italian language course workbooks and all.

That first shot in the mountains in nice, seems just the right scenery and type of road for a car like that.

In the interior shot, is the cutout in the dash bottom just to the right of the steering wheel there for clearance for the gear shift? The wheel kinda blocks it in the shot, can't see real well how far back the shifter goes. I love how the steering column runs between the header pipes, very cool. Seems like a small car overall, but I guess it would have to be when there's only 750cc powering it.
