TR6 15 x 7 panasports on my TR6

When I bought my TR6 it had the 15 x 7 panasports on it, with p225 60 x15 tires. The front tires rubbed a little, but not very often.
So I recently replaced all 4 tires with p215 65's.
this was based on recommendation from another TR owner that has the same wheels. He said the 215 65's did'nt rub at all on his car.

Well,...these 215 65's seem to rub worse than the 225 x 60's I used to have.

Anyone have any ideas on what tires I can use with
the 15 x 7 panasports that really won't rub?

Do I need to go to a 6" wheel in the front?

thanks

hi, you should be able to go with a lower profile tire to prevent rubbing i would think. here is an example of how to read a tire size p225 60 x15 the 225 is tread width and the 60 is the percentage of the treadwith that is the sidewall height, so this tire is 60% of 225mm, so if you wanted a tire that will not rub go with something like a 225 50 15 or go with 215 60 15 and that should at least help. the tires you put on your car are taller than the original ones you had on and had some rubbing with. hope that helps

The theory was that the 215 65's, would be about the same height as the 225 60's were.

I measured them both and they are so close in height I can't see any difference. We were trying to keep the height the same, but get a more narrow tire. Actually the tire heights measure the same, but the 215's definetly look a lot smaller.

We thought that if we could keep the outside edge of the tire inside the wheel opening we should be ok.

I bet if I had bought 205 65's I would have eliminated the rubbing.

I'm gonna play with it a little and see what I can do with it.

check out tirerack's web site for brand & actual tire size, quite detailed.

Good luck, let us know how you make out.

Well,...
Only the drivers side front tire was rubbing. I looked at the lip on the inside and compared it to the passenger side.
The passenger side looks perfect, but the drivers side shows signs of the tries rubbing over the years (Bends & Kinks).

I grabbed a body hammer and did some "ah hem" adjusting on that inner lip. Smoothed out the kinks a bit....

Just went for a short test drive and the rub was gone. I only went a few miles thru and around town, but it did'nt rub. I'll take it out for a more "Spirited" test drive when I get more time.

I think 205's would have been the ticket,...but it looks like I may get these to work.

Tom- An old trick I learned when I lived in your neck of the woods was take a baseball bat(wood) And sloowly drive the car while the bat rolls between the tire and fender. You can increase the bulge by using the thicker part of the bat. Neat trick!

DNK's trick works well. I tried this , bent in the lip but in order to really move it out of the way I would have to fold it flat & this would be ireversable . In my case it would keep slicing the outer most corner of the tire tread & under some real tight turns the tire tucks so high up it rubbed the fender & bubbled the paint from the friction. That **** me off enough to replace the tires & save them for the back of the car. The 205/65's are perfect. One of the many , many costly lessons.
