Lucas Driving Lights - ID help

G'day!
I came accross a set of driving lights in my garage and im not really sure what they are off or where they came from. I posted on another forum and people seem to think they are from early MG's. I was hoping someone could help me ID these lights further and shed some light (no pun intended) on where these might have come from and possible their value.

https://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,266856/

Pics of the lights can be found at the above link. Just copy and paste into browser. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Thanks very much for any help!
Cheers,
Tom

They look very similar to the 576 Fogs I bought recently for my 1950 Daimler recently. Do they have any other numbers stamped in the casing perhaps?

Sounds likes its a 7 inch Lucas fog light.

See Holden on-line catalog. Is that what it looks like?

Yes, thats what it looks like! Thanks very much! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I didnt realise they were that pricey. *picks jaw up off ground* /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Just one more thing though, does the S after SFT700 mean anything?

Cheers,
Tom

I suspect the "S" does mean something, but I've no clue what it might be.... I think some of the Lucas lights have a little metal emblem on the top rim while others are plain so it may have something to do with that, or maybe how old they are??? But I don't really know, or if it matters....

Try searching on e-bay and see what the used ones sell for- ones in good condition (nice chrome, no corrosion on the inside, good reflectors and lenses, etc.) can be worth a bit of money.

The letter may refer to the lens type. Many lights of this type were offered with different lenses... spot, wide, amber, etc.

yup. Those appear to be spots, and I'd thought there should be an "A" designation on it too, though.

I did wonder about that, but the Letter is stamped into the body while the beam would be a function of the reflector and lense so I was a little doubtful- from a manufacturing point of view it would be more sensible not to mark the bodies unless they differed between applications.

The fog seem to have internal ribbing on the lenses while the driving/spot seem to have clear ones. So I thought it incongruous for a light with a "S" that might presumably denote a spot light to have the ribbing of a fog light.

But this may be assuming more rationality at Lucas than is rational....

Hi DR-E, I do not know why the Lucas lamps all seem to cary that "S" in their designation. For example the long range driving lamps are "SLR". However, changing a "SLR" to an "SFT" only involves changing the lens. It is my experience that if the lamps are true Lucas originals there will be a set of specifications eteched into the lamp's body shell---Fwiw---Keoke

My curiosity was over the "S" after the lamp's series designation: SFT700-"S". They're both apparently spots. The SFT5xx series are fogs, the SLR's spots... sooo, lens change? Further: the identifiers in the lamp bodies ~appears~ to be for 7" lamps, fogs not spots... I simply found it odd an "S" designation was on the END of the numbering. I would expect an "A" for amber (or "Y" for yellow) there instead. And yes, the numbers were stamped in the bodies.

Hope that clears up my previous inquiry for ya.
