It's great reading posts and solutions such as this one. I love making safety impovements, that are not obvious, or too obvious. I too will be making this one. Thanks Jerry for the question, Dave for the link and Laurie for your article. Cheers /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif Roger

Well thats real cute. However, IMOP the safest improvement you can make is to install a high visibility Tail/Stop light.---Fwiw---Keoke

Has anyone been able to convert rear reflectors to lamps?

[/ QUOTE ]

I have that on my 100--since I have a high third brake light I have the rear reflectors rigged as turn signals. They use the conical shaped lens which I think was off 100-6's.

Replacing Rear Reflector to working lamp

Here's mine.

I replaced the reflectors (1 was lost anyway), with an aftermarket truck & trailer clearance lamp ($1.99 ea.)

The upper light comes on with brakes and turn sig. only. Lower light works normally

Please Email me if you want further details.

Keoka,
I am going to make it work with the tail and stop lights.
I have not yet installed the lamps. I have a 3rd brake light mounted on the trunk lid already.

Yes RJA, that was my interpretation of your earlier reply. However, I was asking if your Third Brake light also functions as a tail light.?? ---Keoke

OK RJA, if your third brake light contains leds it can be very easily modified to perform both functions.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Bob,

When you get ready to buy new tires and have them properly installed, balanced , and trued, drive down to Hendrix Wire Wheel. They do 1st class work and I really like their Gillet tires. It was more than worth the drive and time.

Re: Replacing Rear Reflector to working lamp

Excuse my ignorance of the older models. Are the reflectors in my 65 BJ8 the same size as Cottontop's and the ones shown in the link that Dave has posted for the addition of an LED to an existing reflector ?
I think that both are excellent safety modifications.

Re: Replacing Rear Reflector to working lamp

I found this on the net, https://www.bighealey.ltd.uk/

If your interested in replacing the refectors with small orange tailights, that look like smaller versions on the phase II cars, check it out.

I am going to modify my refectors, as mentioned in the beginning of this post. Putting the bulb behind the reflector, so it appears stock, untill the brake or turn signal is use.

But, if someone wants an orange tailight, where the reflector was, this just may be the ticket. Roger
