Rover Lives ..Rover Lives.....well almost

A treasure trove of SD1 body panels has turned up in India........around 1000 cars worth.........enough new parts and panels to build at least 600 and maybe as many as 1000 full cars .......sans drivetrains and interior and more parts and pieces.........These are all brand new with tooling and jigs ...........Apparently SD1's were never shipped whole to India but in part form and assembled there....and these are the remnants of the factory that closed and went into receivership some 20 years earlier and due to some financial and political maneuvering the plant was locked up and remained so till now when the new owners have finally gained access to do inventory..........The parts are all in crates and the owners at this point are looking to sell the crates of parts for full cars in bulk not individually..........I,ve got the contact name and his email.........I've looked at all the pics of the parts and jigs .........This does seem like the long lost SD1 pot of gold............Anyone with SD1's i would strongly recommend looking at what is available, although as of yet they will only sell full kits ..........Prices are as follows
20 kits in a 20 foot container.. CIF to any UK port.. @ 2000 GBP per kit
40 kits in a 40 foot container.. CIF to any UK port..@ 1750 GBP per kit

Interesting.......I should imagine that Rimmer or a similar supplier in the UK will just buy the whole lot.

I'm not surprised at all to hear this. The car, built by STAMPRO in India beginning around 1981 (STAMPRO having bought the body tools from Rover), was known as the Standard 2000. Oddly enough, it used a variant of the old wet-liner Standard Vanguard/Triumph TR motor. Apparently, this was a short-term and very ill-fated project. See more at the Standard Motor Club web site:
