Headlamp vacume valve..

I don't have one of these.. Have any of you had any luck replacing it with something that you can find locally? I was going to use one of the one way valves found in a lot of Chevrolets for the vacume dash controls, but they are for a way smaller vacume line..

Sorry, 1965-70 was a long time ago, but it seems we found a standard smog part that fit the job, or it might have been from a transmission vacuum control. I don't recall if the vacuum cyls. were different or not, I think so.

I checked at my local auto parts place..They had nothing..I may have to hit the auto wreckers i guess..

This is from my car - I don't know if it was original or not. Maybe someone will know what else it's used for.

Looks perfect.. That may be from a brake booster vacume line, the trouble with the booster valves I have found is that they fit directly into the booster and are an angle fitting.. No way to connect a hose up to the booster side of the valve..

That's given me some ideas though, but crawling around the wreckers in winter is no fun..

I've been looking, thought I still had an Elan manual, but can't seem to locate it. Am I correct in that the front part of the frame was used as a vacuum reservoir? If so, there shouldn't be too moch instant demend to operate the headlamps, so the line size shouldn't be too critical. The main problem we used to have wase leakage, could be in the pots, the frame welds, or most likely in the one way valve, altho a split plastic teewas not uncomon, as in the plastic tee in the fuel line between the weber carbs.
Almost any one-way checkvalve ought to do the trick. You might check out irrigation sprinkler, suppliers or plumbingsuppliers. Perhaps a fuel line check valve if the spring pressure is not too great.

Good points.. I haven't got the system up and running so I don't know what kind of vacume loss I am looking at but I know the lamps will droop under hard acceleration, so every bit of vacume will help..
