Ford Cortina

Hi.

I know this is a Lotus forem, but there is no place for Cortina's.

I just bought a pretty nice 1968 Ford Cortina GT 2 door. It has been modified with the installation of a Ford 8.8" 3.0 final drive rear end and an all alloy T5 5 speed with Overdrive. It should cut RPM's down to under 2500 at 70.

To make sure that it pulls the tall gearing, torque has been enhanced by the installation of a 5 liter Ford V8.

The V8 is mounted very far back in the tub, about 8" farther back than the original 1600, and major modifications to the firewall and tunnel have been performed to acommodate the change.

I take delivery next Friday.

I'm pretty excited about it.

Sounds nice.. pics for sure are required. The Lotus guy's are pretty tolerant of engine swaps and mods in general cause none of our cars is exactly alike.. even from new. Lotus had a habit of using whatever was handy and cheap to put thier cars together.. Not to say the cars are mickey mouse, but it makes it hard to bring the cars back to " origional " condition..

I myself have a 1700 swap and Alfa 5 speed in my Elan.. Mind you it looks quite stock to the untrained eye..

Welcome aboard!

Ditto, sounds like a nice car. Like it was said earlier, there are all kinds of engines in Cortina's. I recently ran into a guy up here in Ontario who had some sort of a V6 or V8 in one, I forget the exact motor now, but certainly not the stock motor and he was apologetic. And he told me that if his family hadn't rescued the Cortina it would have probably been crushed.

I personally like the Cortina a lot, I'm thinking of buying one. Looked at one in Alberta, not sure about it. Here in Ontario there's a nice looking 4-door Mk II 'Tina only missing its engine and tranny, the guy wants $500 for it, I've seen it once and thought about it...

I prefere the MK1's, but you need to upgrade to the MK2 brakes and suspension if you want to be really on top of things..

I'm not too keen on 4drs, but there isn't much difference weight wise so go for it...
