TR4/4A Floor pan replacement

My chassis and body are going to the shop to get painted. The chassis is hanging from the ceiling and I intend to simply drop it onto the chassis to get it to the shop without any mounting pads. One of the first things they will be doing is replacing the driver side floorpan. Then they will lift the body back off to clean-up and paint. I know that the body needs to be on the chassis to weld in the new one. Here is my question: To get the new pan lined up correctly do I need to install the new body mounting pads first? The old ones are not on the car. I was going to install the new pads when the body is reinstalled after painting but got to wondering if not having them in would mess up the alignment of the new panel. Bruce

I would not think so.

Might be good to install the doors, or weld in some cross-bracing, (or both) to keep things from moving around.

Watch out for the replacements being for a tr6 ,NOT a tr4. The mount holes are different and must be modified
for use. If your shop has not done a tr4 previously you are in for a lot of fun getting the panels re-aligned

I got the panel from TRF (British Heritage) so it should be good but I will look at the panel today. I will say that I thought they were the same though. Bruce

They will not need the pads; taking the floors out is real caveman work, from grinders to chisels to spot weld removers to plasma cutters. If you are concerned, tell them to double check the old ones with the new ones because somebody suggested the holes might be incorrect on Heritage panels. That is about all you can do, and trust the process because it is in their hands now. I would give them time, but not too much time plus ask if you can keep an eye on progress. In addition try and not be a cash cow for them. be upfront and honest.
