Hi,
I thought it was about time I joined this forum as my search for information continually brought up solutions from this group which I could not access. Clearly there are some very knowledgeable people here.
I originally lived in the UK and moved to New Zealand in 1994. I brought my TR6 with me and although it was initially built by me in 1990 it went through a complete chassis up restoration in 2012. It was finished just in time for the new Bond film Skyfall and so it was registered as "TR006 - Licensed to Thrill".
The car is fully modified with a race engine bored out to 2.7l with forged pistons, modified metering unit, Toyota 5 speed gearbox, Nissan 300Z LSD, etc, etc.
My next project was to modify a Triumph Stag. The engine was tweaked with a high lift cam, edelbrock 500cfm carburettor, toyota five speed box and a datsun r200 LSD. All chrome trim removed and a custom spoiler built at the front. Originally Carmine red I changed the paint to a similar but metallic maroon from Lexus and recessed the headlight to give a camaro look to the front.
I am currently restoring two Austin Healeys from scratch. This has been ongoing for five years now and the first is nearing completion. It has been built as close as possible to the original specification and I hope to enter a concours here in March. The second car is being modified and the engine has already been built to race spec. Again there is a five speed toyota box but so far nothing else on the running gear has changed. It will have telescopic shocks, minilite spin on wheels and over riders instead of bumpers. This car is being built to a BJ8 trim spec with wood dash. Although I have rebuilt the centre console to house 4 gauges.
My daily driver is a tuned Golf R which produces around 330 bhp.
My fun car is a 1992 Subaru wrx rebuilt to sti spec.
And our Saturday night cruiser is a 2006 jaguar XJR.
Prior to Covid we would come over to the UK in the summer and visit Healey, TR Register or Stag nationals.
So I've been playing with Triumphs and now Healeys since 1983 so I know my way around the classic car scene and look forward to sharing information.
My first request is for information relating to the installation of the soft top for the Austin Healey BJ7. I have yet to see a photo of how the vinyl attaches to the drain rail. This has to be the weirdest design I have ever seen. The idea of the roof is to keep water out. Not let it in and use a guttering system to send it back out!
I will post some more photos of the cars once I have downsized them.
Cheers
Barry
