Noisy Rear Hubs

Hi all,

I am replacing the rear brake shoes on my BN6 and I notice that the rear hubs make a noise when they are turned by hand. It's not a constant noise, but more of a click, click, click as the teeth in the diff are engaging. This happens on both sides and whichever way the hubs are spun.

Is it normal?

Thanks for the reply Bob.

Plenty of oil in the diff (maybe a little too much as there's some seepage from the rhs halfshaft) but popping out the halfshafts makes it clear - the rhs hub nut is loose and the bearing is knackered.

Happily there are extensive threads on this forum with lots of advice for replacing the bearings... What would we do without these cars to keep us busy?

Keep the old bearing you can use it to tap the new one in, unless you have the right tools. make sure that the new one is square to the hub and gently drift it in.

Cheers

Bearing in the freezer; hub in the sun until it's warm - it'll tap right in.

See previous threads about cardboard gaskets being too thick, causing bearings to spin.
