TR2/3/3A bad napa points

Last time I neded points I bought 2 sets of napa cs207a.First set ran perfect, then after 3k miles I decided to freshen up and installed the spare set.
Car then wont start.after getting out the meter I found the points werent swithching, grounded out.New condenser ok.
Pulled points and finally noticed the fiber washer under the point arm(one piece points) was left off during assembly.
New 2 piece points ordered from TRF.
So If you use napa points,or other plastic heal one piece, you may want to check for fiber washer before install.
So much for some manufactures quality control.

I've had a lot of problems buying decent points. Even the ones from the big suppliers never look as well constructed as the originals. I saw a $20 set somewhere?....wonder if that is the solution?

I had been thinking of up grading the points and condeser prior to this and got 2 condensers from British Vacuum Unit.
Then searching this site I found the DD and contacted them for prices and to get a couple of their "DD" red rotors.
He responded quickly that he would be back in office next week and gave me prices.
While wainting I saw Theroadsterfactory had the DD rotors so I replied I would just get it from TRF with other stuff I needed.
So,then decided to use my spare napa points and new BVU condenser.
After points found faulty I went to TRF to order, and found they no longer carry the DD rotor but similar, which I already had .
So new uprated 2 piece fiber heel points coming from TRF,and my next complete ignition service order I will contact DD.

Thanks
Tom

I'll say one thing about TRF and the 'red rotor' for a TR6 distributor "They have their bases covered"
As part of an order I ordered a spare red rotor from them.
These are pictures of the one and the same red rotor that I was sent....as well as the so called 'just as good as the DD" condenser

Given my poor experience with repro parts over the years, when I do a tune up I clean and bead blast everything and then inspect visually and with a multi-meter. If it checks out well, I don't even think about replacing anything anymore. I bet that even my plug wires are 50 years old, but the insulation is intact and they still resistance check fine, so they get put back in every fall. The fact I can get away with 50 year old electrical parts is a testament to how much better they used to be...

The blue wire condenser you show looks exactly like the ones I got from British Vacuum Unit@8.95 ea.
TRF no longer carries DD rotors for the TR3,not sure about TR6.
Looking at my red rotor that Jeff at Advance Dist. installed and the DD pics the trademark stamp seems the only visible difference.

Yesterday napa exchanged my one piece point set for one in stock that had the missing fiber washer,so I fiqured I would have another spare ,but was waiting for TRF 2 piece which came today.
I did not realize that the listed as original style 2 piece fiber heel set seems made for a base plate with a pivot arm post.My Dist.was rebuilt by Jeff at advance so not sure if my no post baseplate is original or modified for one piece points, but I will contact him.
Anyway for now a cs207a goes gack in,which I never had any issues with until the one faulty set.
Tom
Jeff got back to me and said he probably installed new later breaker plate for 1 piece points, which is how he sets up all his distributors.
Lesson learned is 2 piece require different original plate.I thought the 2 piece just came apart and were interchangeable but they are not.
