Hi all, I am new here and looking for some knowledgeable Healey co-enthousiasts. I need help on the rebuilt of my BJ7 engine. Does anyone know what are the tolerances on the cylinder size (originally 83,34mm?). The gap in the piston rings is too large (.55 mm) so I wonder if I need to enlarge the bore or just replace the piston rings. Thanks in advance for your help! Walter

Hello Walter, I usually let the machine shop take care of machining tolerances when I assemble an engine but I thought I would try to look up some info for u in the Bentley Workshop manual.
I see that in section AAA, AAA.2 that it describes how to install new liners. It says after the new liners are pressed in that the liners should be machined to this demension. 83.32 to 83.36 mm. Under general data it says that ring gap should be 33 to .46(.013to .018 inches). Cyl. Bore = 83.34. That’s for BN7 thru the BJ8. Well that’s what I read anyway.
