TR6 LED Headlights Thouights?

While I am sure it's been covered, a quick search didn't uncover what I was looking for. Simply, does anyone have LED headlights installed and, if so, your general impressions? I know all the benefits, just looking for some feedback. I think almost as important as the added light is the relief on my headlight switch on my TR6. Many thanks.

+1 on adding a relay to do the switching. I don't have LED headlights but I did switch to halogen headlights and they are far superior to the stock incandescent ones.

I guess TR6's don't have a headlamp relay? TR4s didn't and I added a pair to eliminate the tendency for the switch to double as a hand warmer. Later I went with LEDs.

One big advantage to the LED headlamps - I usually drive with the headlights on in the daytime and the draw is so small (about the same as a brake light) that the generator can keep up.

Re: LED Headlights Thoughts?

No, the 6 didn't come with a headlight relay which, of course, is part of the desirability of LED's because the load drops from about 5 amps to just over 1. This would be a welcome gift for the switch. I can easily add a relay but try to resist making such mods unless absolutely necessary. I suppose my main question is; how did you find the cosmetic switch going from the warm glow of period correct incandescents to the stark white of LEDs? Thanks.

I didn't find it offensive, if that's what you mean.

Re: LED Headlights Thoughts?

One of my original headlights burned out and I replaced both of them with halogens. Straightforward job except for those %^&*# headlight rims. One was easy. The other one took me 20 minutes of cursing before it finally hooked on. You nay think you have it but hit a bump and the rim flies off. Stick with the ones with the screw on the bottom.

Yes I remover dimmer all together. My TR 6 1973 key switch under steering wheel went bad so I removed it also and replaced ign. switch in that space in dash parts from Summit. Locking steering wheel junk any way. If I could post pic on Thread would show same I am still new here. Madflyer

Thanks. I know we're off the headlight topic now but one last question; where did you find the LED dash replacements?

A company called Litezupp has everything you need. Bulbs are drop in replacement and it means you get to keep the original switch. If you change the blinker bulbs to LED you need a different flasher which they have. I have bulbs from this company in my cars along with the rest of my club. The owners are LBC people, one owns and drives a 3 and a 250, they understand the cars and what they need.

For me that is a drawback. The main use of my headlamps are daytime driving (long 2-lane highways in the desert) and the white of the LEDs is harder for oncoming drivers to pick up than the yellowish look of incandescents. Still, I'll stick with the LEDs for the other advantages.
