TR6 TDC - Position of rotor and wires

Hi All,
Have had my distributor overhauled & advanced by BVU and want to make sure all is as it should be on installation.

On the Healey at TDC on compression stroke, the rotor should point generally at the #1 spark plug, with the wires in the firing order (same as TR6) counter clockwise around the cap. On the TR6, that would put the rotor and #1 wire approximately at the 10 o'clock position, + or -.

Is this the way it's supposed to be? I couldn't find any info in the Bentley manual.

A picture of the distributor and wires would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Normally the spark plug wire in the distributor cap for # 1 cylinder is at 7 o'clock....If it's not then the distributor drive gear was not installed in it's normal orientation so the spark plug wires were stuck in the distributor cap in a different position to compensate.
With #1 at TDC at the top of it's compression stroke the distributor drive gear would normally be clocked with the slot running 1 to 7 o'clock with the "big half" on the right hand side of the slot.

The 'trick' Steve is making sure the distributor drive gear aligns with the oil pump shaft, if you do decide to go thru the process of reorienting the distributor drive gear.

Already done, thanks Poolboy.

I had missed BVU's point about moving the car back and forth until the drive gear seats on the oil pump, but noticed the distributor pedestal didn't fully seat due to the old position on the oil pump drive dog.

Made this tool from a 6" piece of tubing (dowel would also work) to turn the oil pump drive dog. The oil pump rotates easily. Used a magnet to lift drive gear out and rotate it.
