Any owner that does not carefully contain overspray would ring alarm bells for me....new paint covering what issues??
IMHO...car is substantially overpriced.

Thanks for the reply and the info, I appreciate it. As a beginner, I'd like to buy with a good start, rather than crying about getting into the hobby with a bad decision on a first purchase.

I think it would be a fun driver/project...at about $3-5k max.

Edit...naaahh. After studying it a bit closer, I think maybe as much as $10k, but I would want to look in person before going that high...

Thanks for taking a look, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on price. Do you occasionally find TR4s in DFW that are <$10k?

Makes me wonder what people are thinking when they list a car with only five pictures, and one is of the freakin' wheel! Am I supposed to think, wow, what a cool hub cap! I'm gonna buy it right away!

The problem here is that there are a couple pix that make it look nice, but not enough to evaluate it. It might be an OK option, but you really need to see it and go over it in detail. Since it's so poorly documented, I can't say anything about price.

Okay so the tech does not work. Notice how the speedo moves but not the tach? Maybe same for temp gauge as well. TR4s are getting more rare so that is a plus. I agree that any purchaser really needs to evaluate the car prior to setting any price.

Engine bay looks pretty original from here, 1st year of the ‘4.

9-10K might not be out of line, depending on a very thorough inspection, rust observation above and below, and a compression check. Who did the rockers and what did they use?

I think it’s odd the interior was refurbished first before the mechanicals, as stated in the ad; maybe the seller is an automotive reupholster.

If you are close, might be fun to check it out.

Clayton - what is your budget for buying, transport, and possible repair parts?

Keep in mind that you *rarely* get back all the dollars you've invested, when you eventually sell.

No, they really do not turn up very often at all. They are relatively rare, especially in working order, but then so are those of us willing to buy old British cars too!

I used to life in Moscow Idaho in 1972 and I think I had the only tr3 and Sunbeam Alpine. The parts of Idaho and Eastern Washington that are high desert are friendly to sheet-metal. I have seen really nice stock floors and rockers on tr3s coming out of that area today, like Boise, but back then they did salt roads in some cities. I would be concerned about any car coming from the East Coast, but again sometimes they are given the proper care.

Unless it really looks a lot better than the pictures in person, I'd pass. If you do look at it, take a magnet and check for depth of bondo on the surfaces.

...Am I supposed to think, wow, what a cool hub cap! I'm gonna buy it right away!

And it isn't even a correct hubcap/nave plate. By the time we got to TR4s I believe the cloisonne was long gone and the 'embossed' and painted globe was used for the emblem.

But the main concern I would have is "Running TR4 with new interior, replaced rocker panels, new paint".

My preference (all my cars actually) is to buy a good example that still has its original paint. I'm no expert but if the paint is original I can get a pretty fair idea of what I am buying w/o X-ray vision.

A second choice is an older paint job that has had time to reveal any problems that lurk beneath.

To even consider a recently painted car it would be well to see before, during and after photos of the work done - otherwise it is quite a gamble.

So, I shot them a text. He's "had the car for 5 years, done lots of body repairs. Any specific pictures or views? Come take a look." That's... kind of a lot, considering the above replies and advice. Higher price, recent paint, unknown (at this point repairs). And it's a four hour round trip to take that look.

My first TR was a 1962 and not a bad car The latter TR 4 ( TR 4 A IRS ) would be better. I also thing price is to much There was a TR 4 1967 half restored and owner past away for under $6,000. in Northern Nevada. I always have pic of cars along the sides that may show damage or repairs. To few pic with this car question that. This year I sold a 1967 MG B for $7,000.00 as a driver. The car was painted years before and I got it for $ 2,500.00 and needed to be put back with all parts in boxes motor done. Trans had bad first gear no seats or interior. This was a club project so. all new seats carpets top tires best price as a driver would would have been $9,00.00
(1967 ) hard to find year. I sold it to a woman that was a gift to her husband for father day and with a club membership. LOOK BRFORE YOU LEAP Here is the number of a friend in Portland
