Routing of Hand Brake Cable

Group,

I have been unable to find any description of how the Hand Brake Cable is routed from the pull handle to the balance leaver on my 1961 AH BT7 or any other model of the big healey. I don't think there would be much if any difference between big healey models. Can someone either post some pictures or give a detailed description of how the hand brake cable is routed.

Hi Sal,

I can partially help - here are pictures of the forward portion of the cable mountings/routing. This BTW is a '60 BT7 and I think you are correct in thinking they are all the same.

The front cable attachment is pretty self explanatory and then it slopes downward to run under the corner of the floor and, as you can see, I put a wrap of hose with a tie-wrap where it passes under the corner of the floor to keep it from rattling and then it loops up over where the stock shock mounts and is held by a clip with a bolt thru to a weld nut on the bulkhead panel. From there it goes rearward and down to the cable mounting on the rear axle. So the only actual mountings are the front cable end mount, the bulkhead clip, and the rear cable end mount.

I didn't take pics of the attachment to the rear axle on my car because I have bespoke tube shock mounts that required the cable to be moved inboard and the bellcrank to turn the opposite direction so I figured it would just cause confusion.

Hope this helps.

Sal,

It's a proportioning valve. I have rear disc brakes and when you make that change you typically need to dial back the rear brake action a bit to keep a front brake bias for safe stopping. After it gets initially set, there is normally no need to fiddle with it. By putting it there, I can reach it while driving the car with the rear seat removed to get it where I want it, and then put the seat back in and it's out of the way and can't get accidentally moved.
