Folks may laugh but I've had some truly life threatening experiences on Lake Erie in my youth. We think of the "freshwater seas" as calm and benign, but as the shallowest of the Great Lakes, Erie can go from zero to sixty in an eyeblink. And an eighteen foot sailboat can get tossed around pretty hard.:scared:

Look up USCG 36500 life boat story. The Finest Hour. We had a sign over the door to the small boats that said. Regulations Say You have to go out, nothing in them says you have to come back.
