Hello I am new here, i am searching for a 1973 TR6 in Canada and found one in Calgary, however it needs a gearbox as apparently it is leaking, lots of work done to it and in great shape or 17,900 i am very interested but have heard through this group that the British didnt make as good a vehicle as the Japanese and some have replaced the tranny with a Toyota transmission to elevate the leaks, i wonder if i am buying a lot of headaches in this vintage vehicle and wondered what your thoughts are thank you

Welcome I am new also and find this site vary good for what ails you and TR's. I have had my TR 6 1973 for over 25 years. I started with a driver and did a frame up restoration. I had time and space and some help but most I completed on my own. The 1973 is a good year on a number of items of the car; little smog, compression of motor, and the likes. I have the overdrive and higher cam but stock for the most part. As for the Toy trans I have driven and fine it just fine and cost not that far out of line doing the work yourself. Some of my other club members have also did brakes carbs seats. I am a stock guy and as my car was built as a road car with many long trips from Canada to Mexico and most of the Western and Southwestern States I live in Northern Nevada. At meets either TR or all British I have meet a few from Canada and great TR guys. The Japanese lost the war and they made planes to crash but their cars are well made I have had a few. Parts for TR 6's are easy to find both in the US and UK. Seattle WA , Portland OR have good TR people and BC Canada also. I do not think you can find a British car that does not leave it's mark. As for a vintage vehicle people have asked me if they should follow me home just in case I have a problem. I say if you can keep up!!! If you trust the seller and the price fits and you can do a little of any work then go for it they are a great car to own and drive. and last if you are not going to drive it buy a Japanese two seater. My wife has asked me to apologies. TO any Japanese and to you for being hard on you both. The Triumph Mark has a fine reparation as a race car and family car; Herald, 2000, TR 10, that said the sports car line has always been in great favor from the start. looks, cost, early role up windows, twin carbs, HP per weight. The UK did a such great job with the TR's they were shipped around the world. Looks, cost and HP were the differents from them and MG's. Vintage is the wrong word for TR 6's; timeless in looks driving and and respect in the British car world OK envy . TR 6's do look great in the garage but they will always be a head turner on the roads around the world. Madflyer
