Here's a simple question: When bleeding brakes, does the car need to be level? I have a 1980 Spitfire, but I don't see what difference it makes. Thoughts?

It should not make any difference with the lines. The only place it might matter is with the reservoir. To keep the reservoir filled you would want the car fairly level.

If you use the pedal trick, and it's my go-to strategy after bleeding, it's better if the front of the car is elevated. Not a substitute for bleeding but it definitely firms up the pedal at the end of the job. (This is where you find a board to wedge onto the brake pedal applying good pressure to the brakes, and leave it overnight - the residual air bubbles in the lines will find their way up to and out of the reservoir.) Just find the right combination of 2x4 (or some such device) to use as a pedal wedge.

What was the reason you started this process? Has the system been drained?
