So, yesterday I'm about to roll out of my parking space at the supermarket, when beautiful E-type convertible (silver over red) rolls in and parks a couple of spaces over from me.

Throwing caution to the wind, I rolled down my window and gave him an enthusiastic shout out. (Not all caution. We were more than six feet apart, outdoors on a sunny, warm, UV rich day, yada, yada, yada...) To which he enthusiastically replied.

It's a '69 and he just finished its first restoration. He's the original owner and has clocked over 300k miles on her. Original engine, too. Never previously rebuilt and was still running great when he started the resto. But since the car was down, he did take the opportunity to build the motor up for more power.

Sorry I don't have a pic, I stupidly forgot to put my phone in my pocket before I left the house.

Poetically, right after I got home and unloaded the groceries, I settled in to watch yesterday's installment of Jimmy Buffett's Cabin Fever Virtual Tour and the second song in the set was The Pascagoula Run, which he wrote about the time his crazy uncle showed up in a red convertible '65 Jag, tosses his young impressionable self the keys and takes him on a road trip.

In Jimmy's words:

"Billy Buffett was the best worst influence in my formative years. He was a sailor through and through and lived life to the fullest. The day he pulled into our driveway in that Jaguar, my heart skipped a beat. And when he asked me to drive him to New Orleans, I didn’t realize it, but I had crossed the wild meridian. My alter boy days were done, and my eyes were open wide. Thank you, Uncle Bill."
