TR2/3/3A Frozen Steering Wheel [Adjustable]

Greetings,

I have an adjustable steering wheel that won't adjust. I'm unable to even turn the adjustment nut below the steering wheel.
Are there any suggestions on how to break loose the nut and steering wheel?

Thanks in advance,
Robb

Don't touch it. The adjusting nut is fragile and irreplaceable.

I've owned mine since 1996 and never adjusted it. The adjustment really just takes a steering wheel that's already too close and makes it closer.

If you really have to free it up soak it with PB Blaster ,give it a few raps with a wrench to set up a vibration to let the penetrating oil seep in. Let it sit overnight and in the morning carefully work the adjuster back and forth to free it up.

Sounds like you have experience!

I use 50/50 PSF/acetone to loosen stuck nuts, etc. Been using that for over ten years.

Interesting. I have a quart of acetone that's been sitting in the basement forever. I remember that it has a powerful smell? What dose PSF stand for? Maybe I'll brew up a concoction.:friendly_wink:

Sorry - PSF = Power Steering Fluid. Here's a copy of the original article comparing different penetrants. Note that altho' the article says ATF, the photo shows PSF, which is what Mr. Bender actually used.

Lots of discussion on this in various forums.
